ZEBULON, N.C. – After trading three-run first innings, the Carolina Mudcats (60-48,
22-16) scored single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings for a
6-3 victory over the Jacksonville Suns (48-60, 15-23) in front of 2,783
Tuesday night at Five County Stadium.
The
loss was the fifth straight for Jacksonville, while the Suns have lost
six of their last seven contests. Carolina leads the season series
against Jacksonville 18-9.
Carolina
starter Tim Corcoran (3-1) picked up the win, allowing three runs, two
earned, and eight hits over five innings. The three runs came in the
top of the first inning as an Ivan DeJesus, Jr. double and Juan
Gonzalez single plated runs. Carolina leftfielder John Raynor committed
a fielding error, allowing the unearned run.
Suns
starter James Adkins (0-2) fell in the defeat in his second Double-A
outing, allowing six runs, five earned, eight hits and four walks over
five innings. The first three runs and two earned runs came in the
first inning on a Grant Psomas two-run single and Bryan Peterson single
for a 3-3 score.
Carolina
took the lead for good in the third inning when Peterson scored on a
throwing error from Suns shortstop Juan Gonzalez for a 4-3 advantage.
Dante Brinkley added a leadoff homerun in the fourth inning while Chris
de la Cruz single home Peterson in the fifth inning for a 6-3
advantage.
Jacksonville left six runners stranded in the game, including five runners in scoring position.
Ryan Tucker made his return to Carolina from the Florida Marlins, pitching two scoreless innings of relief.
